The theme today was encouragement
I like that word
encourage
you know - we think of it as egging someone on
to move them forward
but really
it means
to instill courage
or build courage in someone else
I'm not going to get out the Funk & Wagners
but that's what the word is meant to mean
today was all about that
I encouraged the girls as we registered them for school
and
encouraged them again as they had their first therapy appointment
later at dinner
I encouraged them to find the good in a rough day
and they rose to the challenge.
I got my encouragement today too
and
want to thank those who reached out
and told me
through comments
and calls
that I can do it
that I have what it takes to do this
and be who I need to be right now.
tonight
the girls has a horrible time sleeping
school starts tomorrow
and they are feeling
discouraged
there's that root word again
while Sunday night they slept alone
tonight
it wasn't enough to curl into bed with each other
I got on the trundle
and rested with them
until they could fall asleep
trying to pour all the comfort
and bravery
and courage
into them that I could.
and I had enough of it
because of those who encouraged me.
And isn't that really what we're all here for? To encourage each other?
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said.
You really are a great mom... and I still say they are the lucky ones. :)

You are incredibly perceptive and gracious. Parenting is a serious roller coaster for those kids who've ha a lifetime of love and stability. For those without that, it's infinitely more portant that they receive it, so much harder for them to accept it and a significantly bumpier road. Keep yourself well and know you have a lot of cheerleaders in your corner!!

Sounds like some important parenting moments.
ReplyDeleteI think one is 9, how old is the other? I think I missed that part?

You are an amazing woman sfp. Amazing. <3
ReplyDeleteYou know...it's almost like being a Dominant. You get to offer encouragement, safety, stability, and to watch over them. You get to lead them and teach them to be better for themselves and society. You get to watch them grow and learn. You can find strength in seeing them grasp what you are teaching. You can wrap your arms around them and make them feel cared for and loved. Yep, sounds about right to me. :)
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work. They need all you have to give them.
I hope their first day of school went well and sending you all hugs for a better night!
