Gone Today -- Hair tomorrow

So I'm a lucky lucky girl

I was able to make a last minute appointment with a hairstylist at Ulta -- no referral -- just random selection.

She assessed the damage -- comforted me that it wasn't the end of the world (while at the same time warning me that when she washed it there could be way more breakage)  -- reconditioned my hair -- made a better recommendation for hair repair than my original plan

we changed my part from the right side to the left
cut some bangs
layered the whole thing so it frames my face

and it looks lovely

I should have caught my head on fire years ago

I love her

she charged me $35 -- (holy crap!) -- and I tipped her well

poor kiddo clearly needed it  -- I thought she was going to cry when she said, "you just paid my water bill!"

I then moved over to the skin car section where I told them I needed something with a greater degree of hydration for sensitive skin -- she showed me some crap for $68 a bottle.  When I said it was too much she recommended that I shop at Walgreens

fuck you Ulta-girl

at any rate -- I now have stuff to draw in my eyebrows and a cute haircut that's adorable enough to (almost) distract you from the scab on my nose

  2. I read that drugstore beauty and skin care products are tested far more rigorously than specialty stuff, and that often they are better. so there Ulta-girl.

Do you ever wonder who the hell shops at specialty stores, buys $500 dresses and skin care stuff that costs $68 a bottle and you are supposed to use 4 bottles? Who has the money for that? Crazy!

  3. It occurs to me that in the short term what you should be putting on your nose is probably antibiotic to make it heal faster. Something like polysporin? I never know what brands are American and which are just Canadian... but something like that. The antibiotic will help it heal faster with no infections and I think less scarring.

  4. I'm putting that Silverdyne (or whatever it's called) on the blister -- but polysporin on all the scorched bits

which is around my nostril - -up the bridge of my nose -- around my eye -- oh -- and up my nose -- oh -- and 1/2 my lip-- I'm SHINY!

the petroleum jelly base I think helps as much as the medicine.

  5. Yup. Polysporin, bacitricin, that stuff. It's amazing how they reduce scarring! And a haircut can make you both look better and feel better. It helps so much to feel taken care of...

  6. Olay Regenerist night cream is wonderfully hydrating, and if the 25 bucks puts you off, walmart makes a generic in their equate line for about $16 bucks. I have really dry skin. I've used both Qlay and Equate, and back in the day I've used the Dept. store creams too, the drug store brands are just as good, maybe better. The Walmart brand doesn't smell quite as nice but it doesn't smell bad. So I second your "Fuck you Ulta girl".

I'm so glad you are OK.
    How frightening.

  7. Some kind of aloe vera gel will help with any pain, as well as with healing. My mom used to have an aloe vera plant and whenever we got bad burns she'd just break off a leaf and spread the stuff inside on the burn. Worked like a charm! and felt good too.

"For more major kitchen mishaps like a scald, mix some aloe gel and vitamin E oil into a little jar for a homemade burn healer." from http://planetgreen.discovery.com/food-health/amazing-aloe-vera.html

  9. Two more sense from someone who has sensitive skin. I sell a great quality of products as an esthetician and in there defense they are a better quality and because it is concentrated you use less. But as a woman on a budget I understand that you can't always afford them. For sensitive skin I recommend products by Eucerine. Some are in Walgreens or CVS and online drugstore.com carries a better selection of sensitive.
    Good luck

  12. Yeah I am an oil of olay girl. And I discovered polysporin is much easier on a sore nose than menthol based salves.

Glad you are sporting a fresh look for the holidays!
