Art

If you saw my house

you would laugh

you would think that I'm the most conceited person in the world

because it's filled with my own paintings

lol

not because I only like my own work

but rather because I started to really focus on painting
when I moved out

with nothing to put on my walls

and frankly

no one wants my stuff.

It pleases me

even if it doesn't suit anyone else

I'm amused by the reactions of strangers to it

my personal favorite is

"oh - you really like abstract"
or
"is this your work?"

with no other comment

it gives me the giggles.

and yet

I have to say

that my work
my art
does what it is supposed to do

it brings me joy
it brings me peace

I spent hours this weekend working on a project
and
I feel recharged

I wonder what other people do
to have this feeling

is this why runners run?
why people play sports?

all I know
is that when I count my blessings
my love of art
ranks high on that list

finding this other great love
is just as much a key
to my long lasting happiness

as all of this

  1. Writing does it for me - and dance sometimes. My dance is a lot like your artwork... grinning...

  2. That's a nice way to look around and see yourself. Better than mirrors. For me, my diary: pen or pencil and paper.

I remember I got a real thrill once when visiting a friend's flat, I noticed he'd pinned up one of my pictures (I used to write letters and stuff all kinds of things in them). He shrugged it off, but I treasured it up and pondered it in my heart.

  3. I have my art on my walls too. The stuff that makes me happy. The stuff I don't like I hang in the bathrooms or in the laundry room til someone says they like it and then I gift them with it. And it's very odd to see something I painted in someone's home.

    1. I know what you mean -- my brother has some of my paintings -- and it feels like they're on a sleepover and should be coming home soon.
