ReplyDeleteDogs are verrrry hard to take care of when you are not home all day. They need to pee. They get too lonely. and someone somewhere is really, really missing their dog.
(btw...that's how we wound up with two cats. Just sayin'. )

We are NOT getting a dog
DeleteO, dear. No comment from me. i would not want a dog either. Maybe there is a real owner out there somewhere who is missing the dog?
ReplyDeletesofia
@sofia- nope - no dog
DeleteA dog needs alot of attention. Who will go for walks in the dark cold wet night? If the dog is found you do not know its history. As for the our mum would let us. Say carfully she could not look after her own kids. The momments of truth have to come out and it makes them think a bit deeper.
ReplyDeleteHugs and good luck Ashly xx
@Ashly -- of all people you know how hard things here all. Thank you for your support. No dog for us!

i've lived with two dogs. takes a lot of time. and dedication. and it's not all sunshine and roses.
ReplyDeletegood luck.
@fondles -- yup - no dog - none - -no dog.
DeleteAs the owner of 3 dogs (!!) It's a LOT of work. Also, someone is (hopefully) really missing their pup. Have you called the local shelter? Also check with some vet clinics and bring him in to a vet to have him scanned for a microchip. If you decide to hold onto him until his family comes for him (hopefully) take some pictures and have the girls make some posters and put them up everywhere. Be very careful, you dont know this dog and whether or not it has any behavioural stuff going on. If he stays with you be careful around food bowls, and sleeping spaces, and any posessions (toys etc) he might have. Have the girls do the walking (if he isnt gigantic and they can handle him), the feedings and poop picking up. It doesnt stay exciting and fun forever. Teehee. Thanks for taking him in though, and keeping him safe until (hopefully) his family finds him. Good Luck!
ReplyDelete@HisLilAngel - yes-- pretty sure she made it home - she escaped the yard this morning and no sign of her today -- so hopefully she's gone home.
DeleteYes -- I'm making FL -clean the pee out of her carpet - the dog seems a bit less fun

Oh goodness, I feel for you! My family pressured for a dog, so we did. It's a lot of work, he drives me up a wall and he's dumber than a sack of rocks. But what he's done for my children is wonderful. My 4yo has emotional issues to put it mildly. This dog has changed him so much. He's learned unconditional love in the last year since getting the dog. Hours into a tantrum has understandably been a difficult time for us to demonstrate that love to him. We are human after all! Insert happy dog. They both retreat to a good pouting spot and snuggle.
ReplyDeleteHaving taken in many strays and a couple rescues, I will never do it again. Sometimes no amount of love and consistency can fix their issues. Maybe you'd consider reaching out to a shelter and look into volunteer opportunities for the girls? Our SPCA won't let my Thing 1 officially volunteer but we can spend hours playing with animals. Maybe even take in a short term foster? They often have a sweet one that just needs to gain weight before being put out for adoption. Sometimes it's just a week or two. Makes it a nice experience without long term commitment.
@chickadee
DeleteI have no doubt that a dog would be goods or the girls
but bad for me
so
sometimes?
I do what's right for me

You're only in competition when it's something they want that you don't. Hold your ground. Besides someone might be looking for it.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
mouse
@mouse - thanks Mouse!

As soon as he novelty wears off, it'll become your dog. There are pros and cons to having a pet (duh). If you feel this strongly, hold your ground. There have been some good suggestions made in the comments as an alternative to adopting a dog.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
@st -- thanks for the support
Deleteand nope-- I win - no dog.
