ok - my favorite new game - -which I have not yet played with the girls -- but I thought I would play with you guys
Story Cubes
Here's the idea
you have 9 dice - and the dice have a variety of photos
you roll them
and then based on what you roll - you write a story with all the elements
want to play?
here's what we rolled today
You can't make this shit up
so
we got -- an apple, a flower, a try, a fountain (ahem), a cane (apparently this is the BDSM version), a clock, a ghost or demon, a sheep (stop giggling Nilla!) and the moon.
Now I could write something dull -- like:
Once upon a time I was walking along with my CANE picking FLOWERS, when I came upon an APPLE TREE. I had a little TIME before the MOON was due to come out so I picked an apply and went to sit by the FOUNTAIN and eat it. All of a sudden I was frightened by a horrible DEMON and ran away screaming leaving my apple to the SHEEP.
but somehow I think you expect better of me.
let's try it with a different roll of the dice
I'll roll 2 today
and then another 2 the next time - and we'll see where this story goes:
Sarah answered the door for the UPS man who placed a package in her hands. She juggled it and the clip board as she signed for the package -- the hot delivery guy half walking away before she could finish.
She looked at the address and sighed.
Damn.
She knew it was coming - she heard that her Great Aunt had left her something in the will
and receiving it meant that Auntie Jackie was really gone.
Sarah idolized Jackie
Sarah dreamed of a life of adventure -- like her great Aunt Jackie - who smoked and drank in her day -- unheard of in her time - and "carried on with men" She bobbed her hair -- and wore pants - and played pool -- and collected husbands
But Sarah was an ordinary girl. average in every way. She didn't mind being average so very much - most people are you know. But she was afraid that she would get to the end of her life -- and find that it was average as well
she didn't want an average life
she hoped for something extraordinary.
and Sarah always wished she was just as brave as Great aunt Jackie -- and imagined it might be fun to be a cautionary tale.
She stared at the box in her hands again --
and unwrapped the brown paper
and opened the box
to find an old diary
the sort with a LOCK - like the ones every girl gets for her 11th birthday
as she turned the package over - she felt something fall to the floor
the key
Sarah smiled
of course
the key
what a wonderful treasure -- Auntie Jackie's diary -- she wondered what adventure would be found inside.
Sarah smiled
and put the key in the tiny lock and gave it a turn
and suddenly - MAGIC.....
****************
wanna give it a try? -

Oh, how fun! What a lovely beginning... No contribution at the moment, but i'll be back!
ReplyDeleteomg...laughing...how did you know I'd laugh at the sheep? This could be a separate blogpost but I'll do a microfiction instead...
ReplyDeleteIn her dream a DEMON spoke to her, giving instructions. She walked under the full MOON as she'd been ordered to, carrying the CANE made from a fallen Rowan TREE limb. She passed the meadow where Farmer Ed's SHEEP grazed, the FLOWERing daisies glowing in the moonlight. The path turned at the APPLE tree, ending at a silvered FOUNTAIN. The DEMON jumped out of the shadows, claiming her as his, but she CLOCKed him with the cane, and ran all the way home.
When she woke, she swore she'd never eat nacho's and drink Fuzzy Navels at midnight, ever again.
*giggling*
