Ok -- so two blogs that I used to follow have been hacked
Spirited Meanderings and
Feels like Happy
both have been dormant for some time
and I wonder
if it's because if you close your blog completely I mean totally -not just make it private -- that people can choose to open your domain
hmm
so -- what are people doing with these blogs?
Portuguese and Spanish porn sites -- I assume linking you to some sort of pay site.
the sad bit
is that Turiya isn't the post porn photo type
and Feels like Happy is a sweet college spanko -- who essentially decided blogging wasn't her bag
Both have been hacked in the past week
and I'm not sure there's anything they can do about it
I don't know if it was their account password that got hacked
or
just their blog was closed and blogger allowed it to be used again
but there it all is
filling up my reading pane
and unfortunately -- Blogger is making it difficult to stop following blogs

(on an additional note -- baby moved to another family where all the kids can be together -- sucks -- but I will try again -- hugs -- sfp)
And you already know that freaked me out ~ that their blogs had been hacked, and that all their stuff had been deleted!! It was the last part that killed me, i could picture my years of posting - over 900 posts - gone... and nothing i could do about it.
ReplyDeletei mourned the potential loss for about 5 minutes - and then decided not to anticipate trouble or predict a bad future! Life is uncertain. But still. Yikes.

I am not sure what you mean by they closed their blogs, but if you close and delete your blog, after (a fairly) short time Blogger makes that name available again for people to select.
ReplyDeleteIf they deleted them, it may not be that they were hacked, but rather chosen by someone new for their own purpose.
Yes David -- that may be what happened....but I think Turiya was able to get back into her account -- so hers may have been hacked.

Turiya's blog was shut down completely -- as in account closed. The name was available. What happens is people vanish from the blogoshere all the time, but they keep their reading lists with liniks to other blogs. Those blogs eventually become defunct or closed, but people still link to them. Other's troll blogs all the time, looking for popular names...and start a blog with the same name.
ReplyDeleteIt's happened to quite a few others. So in turiya's case it wasn't a case of hacking. She gave up the url and name to any blog she owned in that account. Including Culling Chaos, which mouse was able to restore only because she too had full permissions for it. Had she not noticed it too was gone, it might have ended up the same way.
Hope that helps to ease some nerves.
