If you can't spot the asshole at the party -- maybe it's you

My friend L took me to a local community party tonight -- it's good for me to get out

left to my own devices I would stay in all the time -- invite one or two people over from time to time

but never go out.

It's good for me to take the old social anxiety out for a spin

healthy

but what came to mind tonight after getting home was an old Bill Cosby joke

someone told him that cocaine was great because it intensifies your personality

and Cosby's response was -- "yeah -- but what if you're an asshole"

I was thinking about my social anxiety -- and how it intensfies my natural tendancies - -which is shyness
and my recent realization that I'm not the only one who's bad at being in a large social group -- LOTS of people are

perhaps it just intensifies our personalities.

Which explains the absolute prat who insulted me the few times I got the nerve up to pipe into a conversation.

what a tool.

that being said

I went to a party
I talked to people
and the world continued to turn

and now?

I can stay at home for a bit -- where it's cozy.

  1. I watched Copycat the movie about agoraphobia (who cares about the serial killer) Saturday. If I had to pick a neurosis that would be my choice.

  2. I was sad when I found your other blog gone but didn't look closely at your comment on my blog until now. I'll be trying to read as many of your posts as I can to catch up. Good luck with the adoption.

  5. We always use to have a variation of that in school. There's a nerd in every class and if you don't know who it is, it's probably you.

  6. I always find this interesting as I thrive in large groups. I always have people over, I'm always going out. I'd even venture to say I'm the life of most parties and outings if I go.

My sister on the other is terribly shy.

I don't have a shy bone in my body but I'd love to understand it.

    Thanks for sharing.
