So the BFF and I are trying to figure out where to go and what to do
and it got me thinking?
If you could go anywhere in Europe for a week - where would you go? what would you do?
Our ideal scenario would be to have a central spot and do day trips from there and avoid the "ifitstuesdaythismustbebelgium" thing that Americans tend to do
so
what do you guys suggest?
(I'm bilingual in Spanish - and can only order a Ham Sandwich in German and can only say that I don't speak Italian well - in Italian....come to think of it, my french is limited to "where is" - and can insert the name of a place -- but I am unable to understand the directions)
help us plan our adventure?
Ooh, european here! Sooo much to choose from. It really depends on your priorities. Were you thinking of a city break, or somewhere more rural and peaceful. Or is having the sea nearby a preference? Are you after arts and culture or historic ruins?
ReplyDelete@J -- well -- for me it's about just experiencing different things -- eating new food -- taking great photographs -- and spending quality time with my BFF. Seriously? doesn't make a huge difference.
DeleteIf she doesn't go with me I may go on an adventure walk in Andalcia
You speak Spanish? I say Happy Paella!!! Second choice if it was me? Italy, despite speaking no italian. Every friend of mine but one, (who is a dyed in the baguette Francophile) who has toured Europe has raved about Italy. The people, the food, the sightseeing? Viva Italia!!!
ReplyDeleteI speak Spanish
DeleteMy Italian is bad
I think the BFF really wants Paris
which I can live with
If we were in the US? I would rent a car and find a place to stay wherever we wanted -- but somehow I think that's harder without knowing the language
no?

I am with monkey, I did a cruise which took in different parts of Italy (Rome, Florence, Pisa, Naples), but then again Spain is great. Or if you went to the South of France, you could see France and Italy. Lovely problem to have. xx
ReplyDelete@Joolz - Yes - this all started with me looking at a cruise since I thought I was traveling alone (and I may still do that)
Deleteand yes - it is a lovely problem to have

long way to come for just a week! Its got to be Germany, its central. It offers great citys, history, fantastic food and beer, 2 sea, mountins and most folk speak english. There your problen solved.
ReplyDeleteHugs Ashly xx
@Ashly -- hmm - do you have an ulterior motive?
Deleteit is a long way
but if I wait until I have more time?
I'll never do it
If my friend doesn't come?
I may just consider Germany
you will not reget it!
DeleteAshly xx
I have no idea what you'd feel most comfortable doing.. but I feel sure no matter where you go or what you do, you'll be happy and glad to be away and seeing new sights.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy every second, wherever you go!
@nbs
Deleteso - strangely? - I'm a chicken at a party? -- but am not afraid to go and do things when I travel.
The BFF and I are well aligned in our desires -- which often include solitude together - having a coffee (or tea) and a good read -- with an amazing view.
I have been to the Netherlands and Belgium, next stop is Italy!! all the way, I have already done my research on Google maps of the places I want to visit.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy yourselves!!
@AtiyaLuv - the Netherlands would be quite an adventure - I have a good friend in Sweden as well and it's tempting to go see her family.
Deletebut
sigh
Italy
How can I die without going to Italy?
You might consider Edinburgh for the Fringe Fest. It is a lot of fun and Edinburgh it beautiful.
ReplyDelete@Cygnet - Edinburgh would be fun
Deletehave I mentioned that I don't drink?

hmmm....Spain is lovely. Italy (well mouse has never been). Germany was great, Austria was gorgeous. Hungary was also beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAmsterdam was fun.
France (the parts mouse has seen) was beautiful.
Get a Eurail pass and just go where the trains take you...
That's the best mouse can say.
@mouse.
Deleteoh
Spain is lovely
and I would love to get a pass and do what we will
but I think it might make the BFF's head explode.
