it's an ugly term -- isn't it?
"Militant Feminist"
but it's fitting.
I am pro-woman -- not to the detriment of men -- but in support of women -- women's rights -- women's equality.
and I am militant
why?
because when one is attacked -- it's appropriate to defend our territory
to fight for what we believe
to protect what we believe in
Yes - I am militant.
lately -- we have been attacked
by people who want to set us back
hold us back
confine us
to their idea of what women
should be
who want to limit our access to birth control
who want to make the one thing that
has given women choices in life
if not illegal
then difficult to receive
they want to take the least of us
those least able to provide for ourselves
those least educated
with the least resources
and eliminate their options
all in the name of God
ok -- that's bullshit
all in the name of POWER
so we are here today -- in blogs
talking about reproductive rights
when I say I'm pro-choice
it's not just about abortion
it's about the choice to be a mom
or not be a mom
it's about the choice to have a career
it's about the choice to protect my body from the ravages of having too many children
it's about having financial choices
Birth control gave all this to me
it gave this to our mothers
if you're young enough -- it gave it to your grandmothers
so ask yourself
what's it worth to you?
the right to choose...
for me?
it's made me a militant feminist
and I will be proud of that moniker
for the rest of my life.
Woohoo! Yes.
ReplyDeleteMe too. And proud to be in the same ranks as you.
