M had a rotten day at work today
I called and we chatted a bit -- he told me his story and I laughed at his story -- and he laughed with me and the day shifted a bit for him -- made lighter.
and he said to me
"Not to freak you out -- but I wondered -- what if I went home to you one night in a mood like this -- I was wondering today how you would take it"
and I told him - it was ok
we all play the what if game
Isn't that a big part of what it is in the beginning when you're getting to know each other
you play the what if game
over and over
you play the positive side
and the negative side
What if we fall in love
What if he wants me to move closer to him
What if I have to quit my job to be happy
What if I can't find work in the tiny town he lives in
What if he doesn't like me as much in person
What if he's the one
and the What if game is important
because that's what you're trying to do in the beginning
get little peeks into the future
and knowing that he's taking little peeks into the future
is nice
as long as we are both doing it
and yes -- it's all too soon
and we're both getting a bit swept away
but What if it's not too soon
what if
mmmmmm
what if....
Yes, for sure we do it. And it is fun.

We all do it... and it might be too soon. But what if....?
ReplyDeleteSometimes I play the what if game in my head and it always gets me in trouble.
ReplyDeleteI tried to throw the game away but somebody pulled the pieces out of the trash, lol.
You know I played the what if game with Asha too. Came out here just to meet him and 6+ years later we're still happily married. Sometimes you just never know until you give it a shot.
