Oh how things have changed

I was about 7 or 8 and my mom pulled up to a store and asked me to run in and get her cigarettes.

Mom:  Do you know what kind?
Me:  Salems - the green ones

I ran in and got the cigarettes and brought them proudly back

Mom:  Oh sweetie -- Mommy smokes 100's not Kings

(I remember being very confused -- why wouldn't "kings" be the big ones?)

  1. Oh my gosh that made me laugh! My mom used to send me down our road - a very busy one that I had to cross - to get hers. Salem Light 100's. Must've been a mommy thing then, those green ones! One time I got sent back to get a note from her, nobody ever batted an eye the other times.

  2. Mine used to smoke in the car with the windows closed and with all 4 of us girls in the backseat- no seat belts- carrying on and even laying on the floor- all while she smoked away.

    Thank G-d things have changed!!

  3. Dad used to send mouse for smokes. He was a Lucky Strike guy. "Kings" had a filter and 100"s were filtered and longer. How times have changed!

  4. mmmm...Salem 100's. I used to walk to the store when my brother was a baby to get cigs for my mom. I can't remember her brand anymore. (not menthol, though that was MY brand when I smoked). But I would have been 9, 10 or so? Yes, times have changed a lot.

We have to protect people from smoking you know. Coz they are too stupid to make their own life choices.

  5. My mom used to send me to buy her cigarettes too, back when they were $3 per carton.

Those were the good old days.

I learned what not to do from my mom.
